Walking in the light

Dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, eternal security, and grace through faith alone. I will forever expose false prophets and heretics on my blog. God bless you all.

Westboro Baptist Church is a cult!

2 Peter 2:1

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”

King James Version (KJV)

Westboro Baptist Church is a hate-filled cult known for creating much unnecessary controversy in the State of Kansas. I heard about this congregation and Fred Phelps (the former pastor there) as far back as 2011, a year after I backslid and came back to my local church. Someone I knew from my middle school years uploaded an image to their Facebook page with the words “F*** Westboro Baptist Church.”

It shocked me, didn’t even know who these people were, and thought it was probably another Bible-believing church that the heathens were hating on. I was wrong. I searched the Westboro Baptist Church on the web, which I regret very much, because I found their doctrine to be very despicable. Seeing as how their content online was based on hateful protests against dead soldiers.

That wasn’t the only problem they had; there were many other heretical things the church preached about that offended the people of Topeka. It had come to a point where the townspeople had had enough of them. Friend, let me tell you this: Westboro is not preaching the truth. They are preaching the false doctrine of Calvinism and the false gospel of turning from sin to be saved.

In this post, I would like to show you from the Bible that these idiots are indeed a cult, and not born-again Christians. Let me make this clear; a cult is not only a religious assembly where the members venerate their leader. That’s only part of it. I believe cults are also apostate churches that teach false doctrine and works salvation.

2 Peter 2:1 tells us that false teachers come in and they sneak in doctrines of demons into the church. But isn’t that what cults do? Cults typically lead apostate churches by false shepherds that may appear good on the outside, but evil on the inside. These are the same men who teach faith plus works to be saved and desire to bring the flock into captivity.

It is my obligation as a soul winner and teacher of God’s word to tell you the truth in love. Friend, the truth shall make you free!

1. Westboro Baptist is a Calvinist Church

2 Peter 3:9

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

King James Version (KJV)

Westboro Baptist Church is a Calvinist Church, and they are very dogmatic about it. Calvinism is a heresy that teaches Jesus Christ only died for the elect and that God chooses the elect to go to heaven, while the rest go to hell. This is not an accusation either. I have proof from their website that this is what they teach.

“Unconditional election – Before the foundation of the world, God chose certain people (His elect) to be objects of His
grace. This choice was based entirely on the good pleasure and will of God, and not on anything having to do with the
person being elected. Only these people who were elected will be saved.”

Abigail Phelps (member of the church) explains in this interview what her church believes about Calvinism. This includes all five points about the TULIP heresy.

Calvinism is a very dangerous doctrine because it damns many souls to hell without giving them the free-will to decide if they want to be saved or not. 2 Peter 3:9 destroys this false doctrine, dismantling all five points at the same time. The Bible says that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. God wants all men to believe and get saved, which isn’t hard to understand if you know English. All means ALL, not some!

I’ve heard many Calvinists in the past say, “The Greek word for all means elect”, which is a foolish statement. Coming from so-called scholars who don’t know Greek at all. There’s nothing for me to argue with them about, knowing they don’t understand Biblical Greek, and can’t even speak it! Jesus died for all men when He was on that cross and he rose again 3 days later to save all men!

2 Corinthians 5:15

“And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”

King James Version (KJV)

God is going to hold the Westboro Baptist Church accountable for preaching this doctrine of demons. More and more people are going to reject the God of the Bible because Westboro Baptist Church thinks the Lord doesn’t want them all in heaven. Fred Phelps is in hell!

2.They believe sodomites can be saved, despite their hatred for them.

Romans 1:26-28 King James Version

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

The members of Westboro Baptist Church swear up and down that they hate the reprobates, but they don’t. They condemn homosexuals according to Romans 1, which is true, but they add false doctrine to this. God gave up the sodomites, not because they lived an “alternative lifestyle”, but because they rejected Christ as their Saviour. People become reprobate after so many times of rejecting the gospel, not wanting to believe in Jesus for salvation.

When a person becomes a reprobate, they burn in their lust toward someone of the same gender. Rejecting the gospel seared their conscience with a hot iron, which causes them to lose a sense of morality in them. God condemns homosexuality as a vile (disgusting) sin; it is unnatural! These people can’t get saved, neither can they believe in the gospel because God hardened their hearts.

John 12:39-40 King James Version

39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

Here’s proof that the Westboro Baptist Church believes the sodomites can still be saved.

This is false doctrine and even Jesus warned us about giving the gospel to sodomites in Matthew 7:6. He told us not to cast our pearls to the swine! He said not to give that which is holy unto the dogs! Sodomites are called dogs in the Bible because the word dog is synonymous to the word reprobate. They both mean the same thing. I’ll make this clear: God is not referring to literal dogs! He is talking about the scum of the earth and they that despise the Lord Jesus Christ, who want nothing to do with Him. God doomed them for an eternity and they have no chance of getting saved.

3. They hate dead soldiers

Galatians 5:19-21 King James Version

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Shieley Phelps Roper and her demented family of wackos enjoy protesting the funerals of soldiers who died in battle. They like to wave signs in the air that say, “Thank God for dead soldiers”. How Christian are they?! Their reason for rejoicing in their death is nothing more than a twisting of the scriptures to justify their wicked hatred. Westboro Baptist Church says, “God is judging soldiers for defending a country that tolerates homosexuals.”

While I do agree that God is judging America, let’s not forget that God does not take pleasure in the wicked.

Ezekiel 33:10-12 King James Version

10 Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.

We should feel bad when unbelievers die and go to hell because it’s not pleasant. In fact, it grieves the Lord even the most! He does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked! Christ came to save humanity, not destroy it. It saddened the Lord when Adam and Eve fell into sin, but He made a way to fix the problem. Through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, God made it possible for all men to find peace with Him; it is the gospel that reconciles us with the Father.

What the Westboro Baptist Church is doing is totally against God and the Bible. It is ungodliness, wickedness, and perverseness. If Jesus was here, He would mourn for such people. Let me remind you again, Christ died for the ungodly; that includes you and me.

These people are not Christian and they are unsaved heathens who don’t have God in their lives. Many Christians sympathize with the Westboro Baptist Church, but not me. They can kick rocks somewhere else.

I don’t like their spirit and I don’t like their approach to people in the world. Jesus wouldn’t respond to the heathen that way. He showed them compassion, which is what Westboro Baptist Church lacks. With that kind of spirit they have towards unbelievers, it makes Bible-believing Christians like us look bad. I’ve had many people in the world ask me “You’re a Baptist? Do you believe the same way as the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka?”

I immediately tell them no. This is how bad the churches look in front of the unbelievers whenever they hear foolish preaching by the Westboro freaks. They assume all Christians preach like this and we don’t! Christ commanded us to love our enemies and I’m sure that included the Army, the Navy, etc.

Conclusion:

I know that Westboro Baptist Church is a cult made up of unsaved heretics and it’s very obvious. Their doctrine and their spirit are the evidence of their hateful agenda. I’ve seen podcasts featuring the Phelps family and many times they will express their opinions adamantly against the show host. They wouldn’t even give the host a chance to speak or express their disagreements, whether right or wrong. You simply cannot disagree with a cult; it’s their way or the highway.

There is a spirit of control happening at this church and I don’t recommend anyone go there or else they’ll get influenced by it as well. Friend, be careful which church you attend this Sunday. Remember, the devil comes as an angel of light, even in so-called Baptist Churches. God bless you all.
