Dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, eternal security, and grace through faith alone. I will forever expose false prophets and heretics on my blog. God bless you all.

What kind of church should a new believer join? (Finding a Bible-based church)

Hebrews 10:25 KJV

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

It is very important to attend a Bible-believing church, if you’re a new believer in Christ. I highly recommend that you attend a KJV-only Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. I am not saying the Baptist Church is the only good kind of church, but it is the cream of the crop to all others.

Don’t worry, there are churches out there that are not Baptist, but they believe in the right doctrines. Many of them go soul winning and they preach from the King James Bible. I encourage you to look for a Bible church if there aren’t any other fundamental churches near you.

Many believers have messaged me on social media before, asking me for the criteria in finding a Bible-preaching church. Friend, there isn’t much to it. There is no such thing as a perfect church, but you can find a local assembly that has the essentials correct. My goal tonight is to give you a simple recipe for that.

1. You should find a KJV-Only Baptist Church

Psalm 12:6-7 King James Version

The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

The King James Bible is the perfect translation for English-speaking people. Don’t join a church that uses the NIV or some other modern perversion. Any assembly that teaches from a false Bible is usually a church that has bad teachings in its doctrinal statement. I know this because I have seen it before and many Christians fall victim to it because they don’t read the Bible in their personal life. When you don’t know the truth, you fall into diverse doctrines. Read the Bible yourself! Make sure it’s a King James Bible!

The King James Bible is a word-for-word translation while the NIV is not. The NIV changes the meaning of important words in the King James Bible. It will use paraphrasing in order to make God’s word politically correct.

The scholars accurately translated the King James Bible out of the Textus Receptus or the “Received Text”. Bible-believing Christians have accepted them throughout the centuries and  they are the Greek manuscripts which agree with each other.

2. You should find a church that believes in the Trinity

1 John 5:7 KJV
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The Trinity is a fundamental doctrine that we cannot disagree on. It is basic. The Bible tells us that there are three that bear record in heaven and they are one. That is the best way to explain the doctrine of the Trinity. God is made up of three distinct persons who make up one God. It is very easy to understand if you’re saved, but if you’re a heathen, then you won’t be able to comprehend it.

When a church goes wayward, it begins to teach and preach another Jesus, which the Bible warns us about.

2 Corinthians 11:4 KJV
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Oneness is a dangerous doctrine to teach in the church. It points to another Jesus. It denies the Trinity and blasphemes against the doctrine of the deity of Christ. We believe Jesus is God, but he is not the Father. He is a distinct person from the Father. Here’s proof-

Luke 23:34
King James Version
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Jesus is not the Father because He prayed to His Heavenly Father. Jesus cannot pray to Himself. This is heresy. Christ intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father, but the Father does not intercede for us.

Romans 5:6-10
King James Version
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Jesus Christ died for our sins. The Father didn’t die. His Father sent the Son to make the atonement for our sins.

When a person preaches the doctrine of oneness, they open the door to other false doctrines and heresies. Oneness Pentecostals believe Jesus didn’t receive His powers until the day John baptized him in the wilderness. That is a blasphemy! Christ was always powerful! They also believe Jesus did not become the Son of God until He became manifested in the flesh. Jesus had been called the Son of God from the beginning, even in the Old Testament.

Psalm 2:7 King James Version

I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

3. You should find a church that goes soul winning

Matthew 28:19-20
King James Version
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The job of the church is to go soul winning. Jesus established His congregation for that reason and a church that actively wins souls every week is a working church. The church that doesn’t win people to Christ is a lazy church. You don’t want to join that kind of ministry. If you’re going to a lazy church, you’ll end up being a sluggard as well. Join a gospel preaching church and become a soul winner for Jesus.

4. You should find a church that preaches the right gospel

Ephesians 2:8-9 King James Version

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Don’t join a church that preaches faith plus works to be saved. It is unprofitable to be a part of a ministry that teaches works salvation. Avoid any churches that teach a false gospel using the phrase “repent of your sins”. No one has to repent of their sins to be saved. It’s impossible to turn from all our sins and be perfect. No human being is clean before God.

Many churches believe you have to keep the law or else you’ll lose your salvation: this is also a damnable heresy! Pentecostal churches believe in this doctrine and they send plenty of people to hell with this perverse teaching. Take my advice, brethren, do not attend a Pentecostal church. The key is to join a church that preaches salvation by grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ. Find a church that teaches eternal security.

Conclusion:

I hope this post was encouraging to you and may you find a Bible-preaching church that teaches sound doctrine. Remember, no church is perfect, but we need to make sure we find a church that sticks close to the Bible. If you want to find a local church in your area, you can use Brother Spencer Smith’s website as a tool for that-
